It was established on Çukurcuma Street by two very sweet designers, Bahar Hanım and Kerem Bey, in reference to their admiration for the cultural and production heritage of the region. Khalid AlAli: Oh wow, where would I begin?! For starters, this review is more than five years late. Given that I visited Civan on multiple occasions, during the summer and autumn of 2017. Back when their shop was in Çukurcuma, and I lived in Banklar Caddesi in Beyoğlu, right behind Galata tower from May to November of that same year. A stone’s throw away from their current place. I even befriended a couple of interesting people living and working in Serdar-ı Ekrem Sokak, such as Kashif Bey from “Sofa” antiques, and Şeyda from “Story di Toy” just around the corner. People that made visiting and living in Istanbul for a short while, quite interesting I daresay.I stumbled upon Civan by sheer coincidence, one July afternoon, and luckily for me, as soon as I crossed the threshold, won over by the unique window display. Bahar was there to welcome me. She was without a shred of a doubt, the nicest person I met during those 9 different visits to Istanbul, within that six-month timespan. A living saint one would argue. A kind human being, with a beautiful soul, and a most interesting eye for things, along with a wonderful mind to go with it.I’ve been to tailors in London, Bologna, Rome, Munich, Geneva, Bern, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, Leiden, Toulouse, and Paris ever since, and Civan is still by far, the best of them all. Bahar first of all, tops everyone I’ve dealt with in those various cities, across multiple countries, in quite literally, everything!The many items I had tailored at Civan, are still pieces of clothing that adore my wardrobe, and have withstood the test of time. As a person that detests shopping, and abhors material pocession. Civan is the only place that I would go out of my way to have my clothes made in, given the sheer mastery and immaculate attention to detail that they exhibit without fail. Last but not least, amazing people such as Lady Bahar, are the main reason why, a gentleman of my stature, would be forever indebted to a city like Istanbul, let alone a tailor shop. Nothing is more bespoke and unique about this place, more than the awesome lady that owns and runs it.I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I’m extremely delighted to inform you, that my Civan pieces will join 2023 with me this upcoming Sunday as well. For they haven’t aged a day since the summer of 2017. Robert Bole: Was visiting Istanbul with my college-age son. He has been looking for a sharp jacket for some time and when we saw Civan we were both intrigued. The experience was fantastic. They are clearly experts in building clothes and tailoring, but so welcoming and helpful in guiding my son through the process. The space itself is filled with cloth, pattern books, buttons and examples. The co-owner helped us with choices and spoke perfect English (as well as a few other languages.) The construction process took some time, a clear indication of the demand for their products. Appointment recommended. Prices were very competitive. Loved the whole experience and will go back for myself.

David Chen: I purchased some made to measure shirts and a blazer, had the fitting and paid in full...I was won over by the great customer service by Bahar and the promise that they would arrive in January. The order had been delayed by over two weeks due to a backlog, however this was not clearly communicated in a timely manner.My final judgement is that the quality is definitely top notch and is comparible to any top tailor, however the lack of communication over the actual timelines left a slightly bitter taste.That being said overall I am very happy with the final products.

Eduardo Cordeiro: CIvan is a must for any guy who wants to dress with panache. The store has just moved to its new digs on the uber hip Serdar-ı Ekrem Caddesi - it's located in an apartment building, so simply ring the buzzer and they'll let you in. This new location, Bahar (the owner and designer) explained, is more accessible because it's right on street level and there's no way they'll not hear the doorbell (which may have been the reason why someone said there was no response on a Tuesday afternoon; I did notice he wrote before the store moved).It was hard to pick just one shirt - I wanted to buy at least three, and should have spoiled myself a bit more. Bahar is super sweet, smart, speaks perfect English and studied fashion in Amsterdam. Her designs do have a cool European twist that make them stand out in a great way. If you're looking to buy great clothes that nobody else in your town (or even country!) has, look no further. Clothes can be bought off the rack but if you need adjustments or a custom-made piece, the Civan team is there to help. Everything is made right there on the premises. (Note: they don't take credit cards, so stop off at an ATM en route.)
